The Adventure Travel Start of a Love Story

Adventure travel inspiration

Do you ever feel there’s more to traveling than all-inclusive resorts, but aren’t sure what that means or where to start? You’re not alone  many people search for adventure travel inspiration to experience something deeper and more meaningful.

I once believed travel was just about relaxing at resorts, visiting museums, or going to Disney World. Those were the only trips I knew growing up. No one around me did anything different, so I assumed that was what travel meant.

One day, by chance, I brushed past my future love. While shopping for a sweater, I accidentally typed gap.ca instead of gap.com. (I’m from Canada.) I saw a travel website instead of a clothing store but I wasn’t ready to notice. I quickly thought, “Nope, that’s not what I’m looking for,” and clicked away.

All-inclusive Resorts and Cities

Over the years, I visited many resorts and cities. They had sunshine, good food, and comfortable hotels. Yet I never felt satisfied. By the third day, I was bored and counting hours while watching tourists crowd the breakfast buffet.

After every trip, I told myself, “Maybe it was just that resort,” or “Next time I’ll read more reviews.” I kept searching for another city to visit, hoping for a better experience.

Then my younger sister asked a simple question:
“Why do you keep going to cities if you don’t enjoy them?”

That moment changed everything. I realized that if I kept choosing the same places, I’d keep getting the same results. To experience something new, I needed a new approach.

While working for a loyalty company, I came across a tour operator called Gap Adventures. The name sounded familiar. I picked up their trip book—and that’s when everything shifted.

Adventure Travel Inspiration: Love at First Sight

Opening that book felt magical. It showed me adventures I never imagined—African safaris, jungle stays in the Amazon, hikes through Nepal’s snow-capped mountains. These weren’t vacations for researchers or filmmakers. They were open to anyone willing to explore.

A whole new world appeared before me. And just like falling in love, I instantly knew it was right.

For two months, my sister and I browsed through hundreds of trips. We finally found one that fit our budget and schedule. We booked it, got our shots, packed our gear, and set off for an unforgettable journey.

That’s how I had my first adventure in Ecuador, that August.

The Love Story Continues

Taking that first trip was one of the best decisions of my life. The connection to people, places, and nature was far deeper than anything I’d felt at a resort.

Since then, I’ve taken more trips with Gap Adventures. Within two years, I gained enough confidence to plan my own journeys—to Costa Rica and Eastern Europe.

Now, my travel goals are simple:

  • Visit one new country every year,

  • Try solo travel next year, and

  • Help others look beyond resorts and cruises to find truly fulfilling adventure travel inspiration and experiences.
