Toronto’s skyline and waterfront are well-known, but when fall comes, the city turns into a show of colours. The parks, ravines, and seaside walks become heaven on earth, all cosy and beautiful.
High Park
Start with the obvious one. High Park is Toronto is the biggest green space and one of the most popular places to see fall colours. With wide walking trails, wooded paths, and even a little zoo, it offers the best fall experience. A favourite among nature lovers, October is when the maples and oaks transform into a sea of crimson, orange, and yellow.Head to Grenadier Pond for the best views of reflections on the water or walk the forest trails for a more secluded feel. If you’re up for a longer walk, the trails connect across different areas, so you can spend a whole afternoon surrounded by colour.
Trinity Bellwoods Park
This downtown park is a local hangout. People come here to walk their dogs, play frisbee, or lounge with a coffee. In the fall, the trees along the paths create brilliant canopies that make even a short walk a memorable experience.
The blend of city life and nature is what makes this place fun. Cosy cafes and storefronts are selling all things autumn. Get a latte from a coffee shop nearby, sit down on a bench, and take it all in.If you stay nearby, you can visit whenever you feel like it. Trillium Park
Down by the waterfront, Trillium Park offers fall colours with stunning skyline views. The park, situated on the east side of Ontario Place, features trails, open green lawns, and native plants that burst into shades of red and gold in the autumn.
Walk the William G. Davis Trail to enjoy both the lake and the beautiful trees. It’s even more beautiful at sunset, when the colours glow in the soft light and the city lights turn on.
Ontario Place
Right next door to Trillium Park is Ontario Place, another excellent place to enjoy fall colours. While it’s more known for concerts and events, the grounds have plenty of tree-lined paths that light up in autumn.
The contrast is the best thing about Ontario Place – bright fall leaves against the modern architecture and views of Lake Ontario. Pack a picnic, sit by the water, and you’ll see just how pretty the city can get when the seasons change.
Toronto Harbourfront
The Harbourfront is a convenient choice if you don’t have much time. Walk along the boardwalks and trails and you’ll find bursts of colour among the trees lining the waterfront. It’s not as wild as the ravines or big parks, but it has the perfect combination of city and natural beauty.
You’ll find lots of things to keep yourself occupied with. You may go leaf-peeping, visit a gallery, take a boat ride, or stop at one of the lakeside cafés. On a calm day, the lake reflects the autumn foliage, making the whole area feel twice as colourful.
Liberty Village
You might not think of Liberty Village as a place to see fall leaves, but the neighbourhood is full of tree-lined streets, parks and converted old factories – it all looks great in the backdrop of fall colours.
It’s more of a casual, local experience than a grand show of nature, but that’s exactly why you should visit.
Walk around the side streets, get a coffee, and admire how the leaves make the red-brick buildings look brighter.
Glen Stewart Ravine
Go east to Glen Stewart Ravine if you want to feel like you’re in the wild without leaving the city. This secret treasure is a forested ravine with wooden boardwalks that wind among tall trees. In the autumn, the trees make a colourful canopy, which you don’t want to miss.
It’s a lot quieter than High Park or the seaside, which makes it great for a peaceful walk. The boardwalk trail isn’t too long, but it feels completely different from the busy city.
Scarborough Bluffs
If you don’t mind a short drive, the Scarborough Bluffs have some of the most beautiful autumn views near Toronto. The cliffs that rise far above the ground look amazing against the autumn leaves, and the vistas of Lake Ontario are amazing.
At the base of the cliffs is Bluffer’s Park, an excellent place for a walk. For the best views, however, head up to top of the bluffs and look over the colourful trees that extend towards the shoreline. Bring your camera – you absolutely don’t want to miss this scene.
